From the People We Have Worked With

RH

Robert Hartley

Chiang Mai · Retired engineer

I had boxes of papers going back thirty years — some sorted, most not. The assistant came in, took one look, and gently proposed a system that made sense. By the end of the two hours I could find anything. The printed index is something I consult regularly.

Chiang Mai · Retired teacher

I subscribed to the reading bundle because I wanted to understand the pension system better, without having to sit in anyone's office. The parcels arrive reliably and the material is well-chosen. I attended the reading circle online twice and found it a good way to ask questions without feeling pressured.

The family workshop was my wife's idea, and I am glad she suggested it. We had never really discussed where all our household records were — each of us had separate piles. We left with one shared folder and both of us knowing exactly what was in it. A good afternoon's work.

Lamphun · Planning for retirement

I was a little uncertain about having someone in my home for a sorting session. The assistant was respectful from the moment she arrived — no rushing, no judgement about the state of my filing. Three sessions later my paperwork is in better shape than it has been in years.

Chiang Mai · Retired

The reading bundles are well assembled. Some parcels are more directly relevant to my situation than others, which is inevitable with a curated service. The reading circle session I attended in person at the Charoenrat Road room was a pleasant surprise — a small group, relaxed, and useful conversation.

We did the family workshop with three generations present — my parents, my wife and me, and our adult daughter. The facilitator handled it beautifully, keeping the pace gentle enough for my parents while covering everything we needed. We have a shared folder now that all five of us understand.

Three Client Journeys

A closer look at how different clients came to Heritage Compass and what they found useful.

EL

Eleanor Lindqvist

Chiang Mai · Paperwork Sorting Session

The Situation

Eleanor had been collecting documents across four decades in three countries. When she moved to Thailand, three large boxes came with her — unsorted, unlabelled, and increasingly a source of low-level anxiety when anything needed to be found.

The Session

Three sessions over two weeks. The first was devoted to broad sorting; the second to refining categories and labelling; the third to creating the printed index and checking that Eleanor could navigate the system herself. The assistant made no comment on document content throughout.

The Outcome

Three boxes became one well-organised cabinet. Eleanor now locates any document in under two minutes. She reports that the sense of having things in order has made the whole subject of retirement planning feel much less daunting.

"I had been putting this off for two years. It took two weeks and now it is done. I wish I had started sooner."

TC

Thanapol & Chalinee Charoenwong

Chiang Mai · Family Documentation Workshop

The Situation

Thanapol's parents were in their late seventies and had no shared record of their household documents. Their two children lived in different cities and had no clear picture of where essential records were kept or who to contact in an emergency.

The Workshop

A four-hour workshop at the parents' home, attended by all four family members. The facilitator guided them through building a shared household folder — contacts, identification copies, key records — at the parents' pace, with breaks as needed.

The Outcome

All four family members now hold a printed index of the household folder. The parents report feeling that a long-standing item had been taken off their list. Both adult children described the afternoon as one of the most practically useful things they had done together as a family.

"We should have done this years ago. The workshop made it feel very straightforward — no argument about what to include, just a quiet process that we all followed together."

Margaret Bridges

Chiang Mai · Reading Bundle Subscriber

The Situation

Margaret was approaching retirement after thirty years in education. She wanted to understand the Thai pension and social security system more thoroughly before making decisions, but found the available information online scattered and inconsistently presented.

The Subscription

Six months of fortnightly parcels, beginning with general retirement-planning overviews and progressing to more specific topics. Margaret attended four of the six monthly reading-circle sessions, both online and at the reading room.

The Outcome

By the end of the subscription, Margaret had a working understanding of the main pension-related topics she had previously found confusing. She has since renewed for a second six-month term, with a different thematic focus.

"It is a very gentle way to build knowledge. A parcel every two weeks is the right amount — enough to feel that you are making progress, not so much that you feel overwhelmed."
